Many riders decide to store their motorcycles away for the winter, but if you are a dedicated rider, you may still find times throughout the colder months of the year to get in a ride. Winter brings some special considerations you have to make in order to stay safe when riding your bike on West Virginia roads. If you have never ridden at this time of year, then it may help to familiarize yourself with these considerations.

Forbes explains that you can ride in the winter, but it is ideal if you only ride when roads are clean and there is not an active weather situation. If it is snowing, you should stay put and avoid getting on the road. You also need to make sure that you dress for the weather. As you cruise down the road, you need to keep in mind that the air temperature is warmer than how you will feel. Bundle up to protect yourself and cover all exposed skin.

You also need to follow general safe winter driving rules. This includes slowing down. You need to take turns more slowly, and watch out for ice patches, which can often surprise you in the winter. It is also important to remember that you will have less traction so make sure you account for that in every maneuver you make.

Driving your bike in the winter is something that most motorcyclists will not want to do, but if you live riding and adventure, you can do it safely. Just be sure that you keep safety in mind and avoid riding when the weather is truly horrible. This information is for education and is not legal advice.
